Courtney Humphries, ’04, has been awarded the 2017 David Perlman Award by the American Geophysical Union for her piece “Where Forests Work Harder,” which addresses how suburban woods can be surprisingly effective at pulling carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. “Where Forests Work Harder” was published December 19, 2016, on CityLab and was praised for its accessibility to non-scientists and for its “confident and fluid writing style.”
