In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing has decided to make the Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE) optional for this year. Applicants are welcome to submit their GRE scores, but the test is not required and will not count against applicants who do not take it.

Applicants who choose to submit scores must take the test before December 31st. Tests taken after that date will not be considered. MIT’s school code for the GRE form is 3514, and our departmental code is 4599, or “Communications – Other.” Don’t worry about choosing the wrong department – as long as the scores come to MIT, we can access them.

More information on applying to the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing is available here. Questions about application procedures should be directed to Shannon Larkin (slarkin@mit.edu).
