Congratulations to Josh Sokol, ’15, for landing a spot in the recently published The Best Writing on Mathematics 2021 anthology. Josh’s piece, “Scientists Uncover the Universal Geometry of Geology,” was originally published in Quanta Magazine in November of 2020 and focuses on a new mathematical framework that describes how objects fall apart. The story dives into the project’s early days as an exercise in pure mathematics between a mathematician and a geophysicist and chronicles how it spiraled into a wide-ranging theory about the fundamental properties that keep the world together.
The Best Writing on Mathematics 2021 hits shelves in the US on July 19. Congratulations, Josh.
