Phil McKenna and Josh Sokol have joined the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing’s inaugural Taylor/Blakeslee Mentored Science Journalism Project. The program provides small grants for independent reporting projects to early-career science journalists and pairs them with senior mentors who help see the project from conception to completion. Josh Sokol, a freelance journalist and 2014 Taylor/Blakeslee Fellow, joins as an early-career fellow and will cover the evolution of a major infectious disease vector in tropical Africa. He will complete the project under the mentorship of Bryn Nelson. Phil McKenna, a staff reporter at InsideClimate News and a 2005 Taylor/Blakeslee Fellow, will mentor an environmental investigative project by Susie Neilson, a student at the University of California, Berkeley.
