Congratulations to Robin Kazmier on her Science in Society Journalism Award. Given by the National Association of Science Writers, the Science in Society Journalism Awards honor investigative and interpretive reporting about the sciences and their impact on society. Robin nabbed the highest award in the Science Reporting category for her Audubon Magazine story Cigarette Butts are All Everywhere. Is Banning Filters a Viable Solution? The judged called Robin’s work a “zippy and enlightening read,” adding that “once you read Robin Kazmier’s article you won’t be able to ‘unsee’ the butts all around you.”

We are also happy to note that Stephen Ornes, ’06, was a finalist in the same category for the article For Some Cancer Patients, Monitoring Symptoms Can Extend Their Lives, which was published last November in The Washington Post.
