Congratulations to Zahra Hirji, ’13, on her promotion to senior science reporter at BuzzFeed News, where she is currently covering the climate crisis. This year’s student cohort will be able to learn from Zahra first-hand as she will be teaching the GPSW’s environmental reporting unit this fall.

Prior to moving into her new role, Zahra was an energy and climate reporter for BuzzFeed and a staff reporter at Inside Climate News, where she covered international climate talks, local fossil fuel fights, and climate science. She was part of the reporting team that won the 2015 Society of Environmental Journalists’ Kevin Carmody Award for a series on the dangers of air pollution from fracking and was a 2018 Ida B. Wells Fellow at Type Investigations, where she reported on worker safety and discrimination in the oil and gas industry.
